HEHN is a small community based organization with limited resources. Won’t you join us in sponsoring this health fair and seminar that targets an underserved population in the Austin and surrounding counties area?
African-Americans represent less than ten percent (9.02%) of the population in Austin/Travis County. However, we are the hardest hit by incidences of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. The same trend is seen in the national mortality rates for these conditions.
An increased emphasis on traditional health practices in concert with conventional medicine may reduce some of these health disparities. The concept of holistic health, which embraces mind, body, and spirit, predates indigenous populations of Africa, Asia, and the Americas. We offer a compare/contrast informational forum including an introduction to the Western approach to health care.
HEHN is incorporated in the State of Texas as a not-for-profit corporation and is in the process of applying for its 501 (c) 3 with the Internal Revenue Service. We have partnered with The Non-Profit Center as our Fiscal Sponsor until we receive our non-for-profit designation.
